A little rest, a little shopping, a little gaming

Thursday, May 15th
Everyone had a good sleep in and clocked 10-12 hours of restful slumber.

Girls went to swim in the Oak Water pool, but then it started to storm so their fun was cut a little short.  Gregg and I did some laundry and meal preparation quickly and planning and then we were off shopping again.

I talked about that in a previous post, so this is about some of the other parts of the Downtown Disney area.  I took the time to just walk around the boardwalk and into shops.  It was a very nice vibe and felt very friendly and safe.

We thought so much of our childhood and our nieces and nephews playing with their Lego.  It was hard to not purchase something, so we bought a mug for one of Lego's biggest fans and that was it.

Lego by the bucket loads.  Odd pieces, etc.

Rockin' out at Planet Hollywood

Famous hand prints at Planet Hollywood!
I only had my phone with me this evening and it was obviously dark, so my photos are not great.  We still have the memories though!

Lego sea monster

Make your own Lego car and race them!

Everything Lego...rock, dragon, knight, sword...

Lots of stunningly well organized stores here.
 Disney cookie cutter $5
Lego Mug for a gift $9
I actually texted some friends back in Canada about whether or not I should buy a wooden rolling pin while at Disney.  In the end I decided against it and that I'd do more research on if I'd use it or not instead of my marble one.  How wonderful to have the phone plan with free texting.  We used it constantly so that we could split up and look at different things if we wished and still meet back up easily.

CHOCOLATE!
I walked into a chocolate shoppe and was more than happy to receive a free mini sample.
Potato Head parts
You can pick and choose Potato Head parts here... dress them like Mickey Mouse, etc.  Oh ...fun by the bucket load!
They have a Circus de Soleil

waiting for the rest to come out of the games area

Lots of kitchen ware at Disney too

Gregg started to drive away when Ruth was only part way in the Yukon  "I could have swore I saw 5 girls get in the car!"  Ruth thought she was going to get run over, but instead we now have a family joke about "seeing 5 girls get in the car!"  Where are the 5 girls Gregg?  Getting a little worn out?  ha ha!

Another Townhouse, Blizzard Beach and Outlet Mall Shopping in Orlando!

Tuesday, May 13th

Packed up and checked out by 10 am....usually means leaving the key inside and locking the door on your way out.  All the bedding gets thrown in to the washing machine and garbages taken out and then the cleaning company comes in and does the rest.  NICE!

Went straight to Blizzard Beach and Kate asked at Customer Service if she could leave her Balloon there.  They were more than happy to accommodate even when it was a bit strange.  Leaving the balloon in the car would have made it pop.  All our food was kept in coolers with ice and it was okay.  We had tried to eat a lot of the perishables beforehand.
We never took photos on this trip to Blizzard Beach again, as we saved the locker fee and just enjoyed ourselves.  It's even more enjoyable when it's "Free" with the Fun Pass Options.  Favorites were the Lazy River, Double Diaper, Family Raft, Toboggan Runs, and the Tubes.

Dried off by sunbathing ~ most of us fell asleep but didn't burn.  We're getting so relaxed that it doesn't matter where we are, we'll make ourselves right at home.

Checked into 2845 Oakwater Drive...much more room and a little fancier.  The code for the gate and the building was emailed to us ahead of time and voila ~ we're staying another 5 days!
Girls all have their own room, but they think the beds are too hard.  We put some extra blankets down and they slept with a pillow under their hips.

For more information on the townhouse, etc, check back on Townhouse Rental info on the side bar of this blog.
Oak Water Clubhouse
We did have a conversation with a woman who cleans townhouses like these and she makes excellent money doing it!  We thought that would be a good job if you lived in Florida.  She has a few employees, but can set her hours, etc.
A gated community with a clubhouse, pool, etc.  Lots of kids riding bikes around, families.  Some tourists were staying beside us but left before us.  It did have a family feel to the area though.
I was wondering what this photo was of and then realized ~ it's Jolene sleeping with her knees up and hands above her head.  A new sleeping position since the accident.  This time the added covers over the head is a new thing!  We were so tired that it was not a problem sleeping.
This kitchen was better stocked with items like a spaghetti strainer, etc.
We also did't hear any highway traffic.
A garage for your vehicle or for extra storage.

Kate gets her own room and bathroom.
Kate's bathroom had been "professionally renovated" and everything was just wrong in it.  Very funny.
This is so cool!

Master bedroom closet...you could have a playpen set up in here

This bathroom is bigger than Kate's bedroom!

What bed should I sleep in?

Now, for some reason cockroaches like bathroom cabinets.  Must be the moisture.  We were warned to take out all garbage each day, etc, but at both townhouses we found 2-5 cockroaches within our stay.  They are big.  They are ugly.  They crunch when you squish them.
Ruth's bedroom with choice of beds
Ate tortilla pizzas and salad and then went Outlet mall shopping on International Drive.

We decided to take a drive around and go further along International Drive where there are many shops.  We finally found an outlet mall, but just driving around was fun in itself.  So many things to see if you had more time ... Believe it or Not, restaurants, etc.

These malls are spectacular and fun because they are outdoors!  We could look up at the stars as we walked along!  We didn't have much time, but we found a few things and had a few fun conversations with others working there or just shopping.
Giant Gummy Bear

So many flavors, so little time!

Purple roses!
If we weren't leaving Florida in a few days, Gregg would have bought me these roses.  As a silly romantic teenage girl, I had asked God to give me a few signs of who I was to marry ~ one was that he would give me a purple rose.  Within 2 months of knowing Gregg, he left a purple rose on my doorstep of my Brandon apartment.  We rarely see purple roses, maybe 3 times since we got married.
Burton ~ flip flops $16
Hess fuel $61
It's Sugar (candy) $6
Bali and Victoria's Secret bathing suits, etc $ 82

Typhoon Lagoon at Disney World for Mother's Day!

Sunday, May 11th, Mother's Day
Spent the morning trying to find somewhere to print our new rental agreement for another townhouse.  "Magic Tree" right beside Oak Water let Gregg do everything from their office for free :) We seemed to waste a lot of time calling around looking for an office type store to be able to print off the rental agreement.

The theme of Typhoon Lagoon is that a hurricane left the ship wreck, and everything all topsy turvy. We personally enjoyed Blizzard Beach more, but it was a fun day regardless of what water park we were at.  Again, this is a Fun Pass Option and parking lot is free.

Here is a link to Typhoon Lagoon ... Click HERE   and also one on YouTube Here for basic tour  and this one is even better ~ full view of going down the slides HERE.

The whole reason I had wanted to go on Mother's Day was to do the snorkeling over the rays, fish, etc.  It was unique and fun for us who have never done it before BUT DO NOT WEAR SUNSCREEN before you put your goggles on.  It stung so badly that we couldn't wait to get out of the water.  The cleanser for the masks must react...horrible. horrible.

Liked the roller coaster "Crush 'n' Gush"  Coconut, banana and Pineapple
Big waves and scratchy ground....wear shoes!
Other rides really seemed to bump you around.  Lazy river was fun again, like always!

It being Mother's Day and all, we took it a little easier and went to Typhoon Lagoon (I think they close at 5 pm or 6 pm) and then dressed up to go out to eat.

No pictures at Typhoon Lagoon, because we decided to not rent a locker and only took what we absolutely needed to.  We felt comfortable bringing our back pack of snacks and towels and Gregg carried our tickets in his zipper up pocket.
The big debate was where to find a Mexican restaurant or just go to a Chinese restaurant.  We had a bunch of coupons, but then had to find which place was closest, etc.
Girls thought we should also do a mini photo shoot, so we did!

12 noon 31C
We opted for a Chinese restaurant with a buffet that was just down the I192 that was our main road to everything it seemed.

Gregg's desert looks like Snoopy doesn't it?

The food was pretty much exactly what we would expect to eat here in Manitoba, Canada.  Nothing new or exciting, but it sat well in our tummies and that was good.

We actually went back to this restaurant the next day because Ruth had forgotten her cute little tin that she keeps her digestive enzymes in.  The waitress had set it aside for us too.

Girls found a bunch of different kinds of  Xtra Deserts Gum "Cinnamon Rolls", "Peach Cobbler", "Mint Chocolate", Sherbet"...they stocked up in order to give some to all their friends.  Nothing like a late night shopping trip and then we're reading for the next few days of Disney fun again!

Publix Groceries and hair clips, $116
I think our meal was under $50
